As we look forward to the year ahead, the iK Tribe and our award-winning Talent Acquisition team is looking to bolster our ranks with talented, purpose-driven people who want to make a difference.
And they’ve made a fantastic start!
New Leadership Steps into the Growth Team
Recently, we announced a new appointment in our C-suite. Graeme Cumming, the former Head of Product at Multichoice, joined our executive team as Chief Growth Officer last month.
A digital pioneer with a wealth of experience in identifying, developing, and launching digital products, Graeme was integral in launching Africa's most prolific streaming services.
Having managed the build, launch and growth of DStv Now, Box Office and Showmax across Africa, including continuous improvements to these digital products from a feature and usability perspective, he’s now bringing his wealth of experience to the fintech space.
“I was looking for a new challenge. I’ve spent a large part of my career working in the digital space to bring meaningful products and services to the end consumer. Fintechs have been around for a couple of years now, but it’s in an exciting industry that is just about to really open up and get interesting,” says Graeme.
After leading product teams both locally and internationally, he's now focusing on aiding iKhokha on their rapid growth trajectory.
I was looking for a new challenge…it’s an exciting industry that is just about to really open up and get interesting.
Considering his pedigree in the product space, it’s affirming for all of us in the iK Tribe to see that Graeme believes that our team is a great fit for him, both personally and professionally. To attract candidates of his calibre is indicative of the huge leaps forward iKhokha has made over the last year.
“My passion is identifying opportunities in emerging markets, working on solutions for these markets and then launching new products or solutions that have the potential to really take off,” he says.
“I believe that we are witnessing a real shift in the way that technology is impacting the payment space and the way that consumers will transact going forward. This disruption is really exciting and will open up interesting new opportunities for merchants and consumers.”
A Cultural Fit that Makes Sense
The iKhokha culture was also a key drawcard. As an avid digital innovator, Graeme is looking forward to exploring with the next generation of digital go-getters.
“iKhokha is young, dynamic and vibrant. It’s a new-age digital company that lives and breathes remote working, digital toolsets, collaborative ways of working and a diversity of opinions, all of which are really appealing from a cultural fit perspective,” he says.
Graeme hopes to bring his experience in the digital realm to our team as we continue to scale our payment solutions and build out an ecosystem of services for our merchants.
From challenging how the team approaches problems, inspiring new thinking, networking, and product distribution while keeping the customer at the centre of the experience, he aims to lay a firm foundation for the exponential growth planned for iKhokha.
I think there's still so much more that we can do for South African SMEs by using technology to solve real-world problems.
Building From Experience
Having scaled digital products and services to a global standard while facing uniquely African challenges, Graeme has seen over the horizon.
He knows first-hand the possibilities technology can unlock in people's lives. And in the years to come, he believes that purpose-driven tech companies like iKhokha will start to see the very tangible and positive influence they’ve had on business and society.
"I think there's still so much more that we can do for South African SMEs by using technology to solve real-world problems," says Graeme.
“We want to look back in a few years and be proud that we had an impact on this important part of the market.”
As iKhokha continues to grow, there’s an opportunity for more digital professionals to join their mission and contribute to the enablement and expansion of the South African small business community.
“A lot of people look for purpose in their work,” says Graeme. “I think iKhokha is perfectly positioned to bring real meaning and purpose to people’s lives and businesses.”
